  2. CANT WAIT for the seminar...

i think the toughest task a leader has is to communicate his message across to his team!
how can you transfer the energy/enthusiasm with his team mates!
how to keep focus/on track towards the goal
most importantly how to ignore the negative feedback specially from family/friends..

Jazakullah khair Shykh for taking this topic.. couldn't been a better time for this topic

  3. I have seen many young people who are more experienced in leadership than the ones who are in leadership positions. The real problem is that those in leadership are not prepared to hand over their positions to those who want to succeed them. waAllahu alim

  4. Everyone wants to be a leader even though they may not have sufficient knowledge or leadership skills. This causes serious problems and keeps the organization slow or stagnet. Any advice?

  5. Jazak Allah Kheir for the inspiring lecture.

I'd like to learn that failure is ok and to move on and learn from that lesson.

  6. Could you please translate the end of the first story, as the last bit was only in Arabic. Jazak Allah Khair.

  7. Jazaakumullah khair for the vid -sheikh fantastic - as always!

Im running two businesses at the moment - and two more launching soon insha'Allah.

The main thing i would like to learn is to stay sincere and have pure intentions through the ups and downs and everything in between - and as you said - do what you are passionate about - and Allah (swt) will grant one with success!

  8. Asa, great video masha-Allah.

What I would like to learn about leadership:

How to find and gather "All Star" team....its not always money that motivates, but i'm finding most of the time it is. And if money is not an issue then they tend to be ducks not eagles.:)

  9. Asalamu Alaikum,

It is one thing to know and acquire the technical aspects and the "how to's" of becoming to good leader, but do you have any advice for the emotional aspect of feeling that your are not good enough or lacking self-confidence when it comes to leadership?

    Asalamu Alaikum

  10. Many leaders these days are not REAL leaders because they do not understand that Allaah will hold them accountable for everything. If they understood this simple fact, there would be the like of Umar Ibn Al Khattab (RA) and Salahiddin Ayoobi.

i think its a great idea to have this leadership class, i work and volunteer as youth leadership advocate in ottawa, and would be great to have an islamic point of view on leadership as well. One thing that i'd like to grasp from this class would be how to motivate yourself, because one can have the skills to be a leader, but lack the confidence in motivating themselves although they don't seem like they are lacking the confidence.

may allah reward you for your effort to put together such a program and take you to the highest of jeenah!

    Wasalam Alkum Warahmatullahi Wabarakatu.

  12. Asalamu Alaikum Warahmatullahi Wabarakatu,

Jazak Allah kheir sheikh. Here are my thoughts:

    How a leader can?
    * Lead by example
    * Be a role model to others
    * Obtain a vision / have goals

Is there such thing as a born leader OR can it be learnt?

    Wasalam Alkum Warahmatullahi Wabarakatu.

  13. I don't know how many have heard of Landmark Education but it is one of the highly regarded leadership educations in the world. It stems on the idea that we are each individually responsible for our own life and the notion that creating an extraordinary future based on your values and morals is a matter of completing our pasts. In independent research, Landmark graduates report major positive results in the following areas:
    • The quality of their relationships.
    • The confidence with which they conduct their lives.
    • The level of their personal productivity.
    • The experience of the difference they make.
    • The degree to which they enjoy their lives.

I would love to see these critical distinctions and learning being shared from an islamic point of view. There is Quranic and sunnah evidence to support these critical aspects of taking ownership of our lives and changing the world one person at a time. It would be interesting to see a merge between our true deen and what landmark offers in order to reach the many lost muslims we have roaming today's streets and even mosques.

  14. - How to get volunteers to stay committed (sometimes their parents or friends will de-motivate them)
    - The weight of our duties on the scales before Allaah for the position we take ("...I will do this for you, i will do that, that is why you should vote for me..." - Prez - That's your duty man, you're supposed to do that for us)
    - Being a leader, not just a manager
    - Conquering the fear of life and doing every action as a leader as though everyone under you are your children or students
    - The major leaders of the past (not just the Sahaaba), how they coped with their situations in their eras, and the manners of how they dealt with their people
    - What a true leader looks like with their people, and what they are supposed to look like to the different classes of people (or communities)

    Jazaakumullaahu khyara

  15. salaam

-how to get out of that individual bubble and be outspoken
-how to get the respect that you deserve when you get up to speak and not have ppl speak while you are speaking
-have that confidence to be able to speak your mind and not be afraid about what others say- to have the courage to say your mind
-to be able to make righteous decisions and think in a proper way- for example: parents make more rational long term decisions than their kids. so how can the next generation do this? how can we be able to think and make rational decisions like them so we can make beneficial and important - defining decisions?

examples from the sunnah would be great!
    JAK for your help!

  16. how a leader can be giving orders but not be mean and controlling and also making sure that others do what they're assigned

  17. How can one keep oneself humble and also be protected from self-pride while being a leader.

  18. There are among us people who do have the skills to be good leaders....however the problem is when the one on top do not let go the "power"...Like I have witnessed in my local mosque people on "top" refused to listen to the community who wanted a change in the leadership...they used dirty tricks just to say in even though the community did not want them...Anyway, my question would be how can we protect our "institutions" mosques, schools etc...from people who want to lead just by ego and or any other wrong needs in order to let the people with real skills and noble endeavors have a say.... (I am sure my words echo with many of u..) Asalam alaikum

  19. May Allah reward you abundantly Sheikh, You are like a role model to me.
I have crazy, gigantesque projects that I would like to achieve in life, as sadaqah Jariyah.

So the intention is there (inshAllah), now the action... it is so overwhelming, it is scary when you imagine all the responsabilities and hard work that will pressure you as a leader.

so..what would I like to learn about leadership
-how to overcome that fear of having a huge responsability and tones of work to do
-how to be a great leader and still be humble, humble to the people, humble to the Lord of the World
-Dspiste the hunger and thirst for realising amaizing projects, how to patiently start from baby steps, take advantage of activities that we engange in, and build our skill of become good leaders.

Hope to read from you, and hope everyone will benefit from this programme.

May Allah, the Lord of the Universe, give you Jannatul Firdaus, save you from the punishment of the hereafter, and grant you success in this life, you and all your family. Ameen Ya Rabbal Alamin.

  20. Salaam ou aleykoum,

For step number one: How can you get the "attitude". Many people say that some people just are born to be a leader. If you don't have it in you, it's really hard to learn it, or you can never be a leader.

    Is this true?

  21. Leadership in Family when everybody in the family is not practicing Islam properly. Being able to stand up and practice the religion and treat them kindly and be the first in the family to come back to the deen.

  26. Bismillahi Rahmaneer Raheem

As salamu alaykum Wa Rahmatullah Wa Barakatuh

Most of the questions above, were about leadership at a micro level i.e. community, society, Qabeelah, masjid etc.

What kind of qualities does a leader like Salahuddin should possess? In the current world, the muslims are at a crisis. I am not generalizing and saying that the whole Muslim Ummah is not doing anything. But it's been almost 85 years, and we have not been able to bring back the Unity, the Izzah, the Power to One Single Muslim Nation.

I know a lot of people would say, "start from the grassroot level and things will follow in place." or "We cannot bring back the unity of the Ummah in a day or week." or "We need to work on our community now." or "We need to give Dawaah first and then later generations would think about the Islamic Empire". or "Don't worry about the Empire, work on your community now."

I am reiterating, again, the questions asked above are excellent questions; to know and learn how to be leaders because every single one of us is a leader.

But my question specifically is about the leadership qualities and abilities of a Ruler, who is just like the sahaba, who is just like the tabe'in, who is of the stature of Salahuddin. What are the qualities of a leader who would the Muslims across the globe?

  27. Jazak Allah for a topic that I've been thinking about for quite sometime.

Leadership and Leaders are often conversed about from the perspective of qualities; answers to which are mostly "interview based".

The main thing for the leader is to understand their constituents. Every Muslim Brother or Sister by default is a leader, a role bestowed upon us by Allah (SWT) in the Quran. There is NO messanger after our beloved Prophet Muhammad (SAWAW), hence each and every single one of us is the torch bearer and we will asked of it.

The best part is, we live in communities and if we tend to understand them, i.e our surroundings and then lead by example then that's it. We have the qualities, just need to implement them.

To reference the Sheikh's analogy, our community members are they soccer (or football) players, with life being the object we are ALL chasing, just need to get coached a bit better.

The question is and always will be: ARE we READY to take this challange?

  28. Assalamualaikum Sheikh,

Jazakallah Khair. Where do we start? With our daily lives or increase in our good deeds or with an organization? Sometimes our personal traits keep us from moving on with A project. Do you think its better to start as a volunteer? Someone told me when i was volunteering alot, go memorize Quran dude anybody can volunteer. I'm now confused.
